Grantsville Mourns Loss of Lifelong Resident Mark Edward Blankenship

GRANTSVILLE, W.Va. — The community of Grantsville is mourning the passing of Mark Edward Blankenship, 66, who departed his earthly home on February 25, 2026, at The Willows, leaving behind a legacy rooted in faith, hard work, and devotion to the place he loved most.

Born March 30, 1959, in Grantsville to the late Forest and Silvia Blankenship, Mark spent his life deeply connected to his hometown and the people within it. A graduate of Calhoun County High School, he remained a proud member of the community and a faithful attendee and trustee at First Baptist Church, where his quiet service and steady presence were deeply appreciated.

Mark built a reputation for his strong work ethic through years in the pipeline industry and later with Custom Wood Structures, earning respect for his dedication and craftsmanship. Outside of work, he found joy in the outdoors — hunting, fishing, and especially wood carving, a hobby that reflected his patience, creativity, and love for simple pleasures.

He is survived by his brothers Neal (Linda), Don, Rickey (Terry), and James Blankenship; sisters Anna Rader, Nancy Sullivan (Bruce), and Patsy Blankenship; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss his steady presence and warm spirit.

In accordance with his wishes, Mark was cremated, and a celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Matheny Whited Funeral Home is assisting the Blankenship family during this difficult time as the community reflects on a life defined by humility, faith, and enduring ties to home.
