In Loving Memory of Joshua A. Ellis

Waterford Mourns the Passing of Beloved Local Resident Ann Kelly

With profound sadness, the community of Princeton, Illinois, is mourning the loss of Joshua A. Ellis, age 48, whose life was tragically cut short in a heartbreaking accident on the Illinois River. His sudden passing has left family, friends, and neighbors in deep sorrow as they gather to honor the memory of a man whose kindness, laughter, and love touched everyone around him.

According to officials, Joshua was last seen on Saturday, October 4, 2025, while swimming across the Illinois River. Witnesses reported that he entered the water from the Marshall County side and was heading toward the Putnam County side when he suddenly went under and did not resurface. Despite immediate emergency response and a multi-agency search, he could not be located that evening.

On Sunday, October 5, recovery teams from the Peoria Fire Department Dive Team located Joshua’s body. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by Putnam County Death Investigator Robert Cofoid. Multiple agencies, including the Putnam County and Marshall County Sheriff’s Offices, the Illinois Department of Conservation, and several local fire departments, assisted in the search — a joint effort that demonstrated the compassion and unity of the surrounding communities during such a devastating loss.

Joshua will be remembered as a hardworking, dependable, and generous man who lived with integrity and heart. Friends and family describe him as someone who always put others first — a source of strength, comfort, and laughter to all who knew him.
