San Antonio Schools Locked Down After Reported Incident Near Campuses

REDMOND, Ore. — Authorities have identified the man found dead near Pelton Dam last week as 43-year-old James W. Herrera of Redmond. Police have confirmed Herrera was the victim of a homicide, with investigators now working to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of suspicious circumstances on September 25, 2025, at approximately 12:30 p.m. in the area of Pelton Dam, northwest of Madras. When deputies arrived, they discovered Herrera’s body.

While his remains were located in Jefferson County, investigators believe the crime itself occurred in Deschutes County. The case is now being led by the Redmond Police Department with support from the Major Incident Team (MIT), a multi-agency task force dedicated to handling complex investigations.

Redmond Police Lieutenant April Huey confirmed Herrera’s identity in a statement, noting that detectives are pursuing leads but withholding key details to protect the ongoing investigation. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information about Herrera’s whereabouts or activities prior to his death to contact authorities.

The news of Herrera’s death has rattled Redmond and surrounding communities. Friends and neighbors have begun sharing memories of him, describing a man who was well-liked and whose loss is deeply felt.

“It’s heartbreaking to think something like this could happen so close to home,” one resident said. “We just want answers and justice for James.”

As the investigation continues, no arrests have been made. Police are asking the public to remain vigilant and to share any information that could help uncover what happened.
