Authorities in Tulsa are investigating a tragic shooting that left a 26-year-old man dead Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Tulsa Police Department, officers responded at approximately 3:35 p.m. on March 18, 2026, to reports of gunfire at a trailer park near 2400 N. Fulton Avenue. When officers arrived, they discovered Alexis Diaz-Vasquez lying in a driveway beside his vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the initial 911 call came from a concerned friend who had been unable to reach Diaz-Vasquez by phone and went to check on him.
During the investigation, detectives were able to identify a suspect vehicle using surveillance technology, including FLOCK camera systems and the department’s Real Time Information Center. Officers later located the vehicle near 51st Street and Memorial Drive and took Wiyler Cabrera Abreu, 20, into custody without incident.
Investigators say Abreu had reportedly borrowed a large sum of money from Diaz-Vasquez and had been asked several times to repay the debt. According to detectives, Abreu contacted the victim and claimed he was coming to return the money.
Police believe the two met in the driveway where they began talking. Authorities say Abreu attempted to repay the debt using counterfeit movie prop currency. When Diaz-Vasquez realized the money was fake, an argument broke out, during which Abreu allegedly shot him.
During questioning at the police detective division, Abreu initially provided inconsistent statements before ultimately admitting he was present at the scene and fired the gun, though investigators say he did not provide a clear motive for the shooting.
Abreu was booked into the Tulsa County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder.
Police are asking anyone with additional information about the incident to contact Tulsa Crime Stoppers as the investigation continues. Meanwhile, family and friends are mourning the loss of Alexis Diaz-Vasquez, whose life was tragically cut short. 🕊️
