CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Authorities have confirmed the arrest of a 25-year-old Richmond man in connection with a road rage shooting that shook one of the county’s busiest corridors earlier this month. The violent altercation left an adult male wounded and raised troubling questions about the growing risks of roadway disputes spiraling into gun violence.
The Sept. 13 Shooting
On Saturday, September 13, just after 5:15 p.m., police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire along the 12200 block of Midlothian Turnpike, near the intersection with Walmart Way. Officers arrived to find a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Fortunately, his injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening, and he was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Investigators say the shooting was sparked by a road rage confrontation between two drivers heading westbound. Witnesses told police that the suspect’s white Nissan Altima pulled alongside the victim’s vehicle before at least one shot was fired. The suspect then fled westbound, leaving chaos and fear in his wake.
Arrest Made
Following an intensive investigation that included reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses, detectives identified the shooter as Armardi A. Johnson, 25, of the 600 block of Elgin Terrace in Richmond. Johnson was arrested without incident on Wednesday, September 24.
He now faces multiple felony charges, including:
Aggravated malicious wounding
Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
Shooting at an occupied vehicle
Shooting from a vehicle
Johnson is currently being held without bond at the Chesterfield County Jail as prosecutors prepare the case.
Community Concerns
Police officials stressed the reckless nature of the crime, noting that a single bullet on a busy roadway endangers far more than its intended target. “This was an incredibly dangerous situation that could have easily turned deadly for the victim or innocent bystanders,” one officer said.
The incident adds to broader concerns about rising road rage violence nationwide. Authorities are urging drivers to exercise patience and caution, reminding the public that no dispute on the road is worth risking lives.
Ongoing Investigation
Detectives are still piecing together the chain of events leading to the shooting and are encouraging anyone with additional information to contact Chesterfield County Police at 804-748-1251 or Crime Solvers at 804-748-0660.
While the victim is expected to make a physical recovery, police noted that the trauma of such incidents lingers far beyond the immediate injury. For many in the community, the arrest provides some relief—but also serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly tempers can erupt into violence.
