Edmonton Mourns the Loss of Tanya Van Dyk, Known to Many as Devlynn Cyr, Remembered for Her Powerful Voice and Boundless Heart

The Edmonton community is mourning the passing of Tanya Van Dyk, lovingly known as Devlynn Cyr, who died peacefully at The Grey Nuns Hospital on January 28, 2026, at the age of 41. Her loss has left family, friends, and loved ones reflecting on a life lived with courage, love, and an unforgettable spirit.

Devlynn was known for her loud, joyful laughter, her beautiful singing voice, and a heart that cared without limits. She lived by a simple but powerful motto—“You can do hard things”—a belief she embodied every day. Not only did she face her own unimaginable journey with strength, but she also encouraged those around her to rise, persevere, and believe in themselves.

Her voice, both in song and in life, lifted and empowered others, leaving people feeling stronger for having known her. Friends describe her as truly one of a kind, someone whose presence could change a room and whose love left a lasting mark.

Devlynn was predeceased by her mother, Laurie Ward; her grandfathers, Lucas Van Dyk Sr. and John Pruissen; and her grandmothers, Sini Van Dyk and Pearl Pruissen. She is survived by her father, Lucas Van Dyk; her brother, Lucas (Kyle) Van Dyk; step-siblings Darryl and Roger; and many friends who will carry her memory forward.

Above all, Devlynn shared a deep and abiding love with her partner, Tom, who was her constant support, her safe place, and her greatest love. Though hearts are broken, those who loved her say they are endlessly grateful for the time, laughter, and memories they shared.

Tanya Van Dyk—Devlynn Cyr—will be deeply missed and forever loved. Her legacy of strength, love, and empowerment will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her. Rest peacefully.
