Beloved CAHS Drama Teacher Larry Cervi Dies at 90, Remembered for a Life of Art, Faith, and Lasting Influence

Durbanville High School Mourns the Loss of Student Jean Luc Olivier After Tragic Accident

The CAHS community and countless former students are mourning the loss of Larry Cervi, a beloved drama teacher who passed away from cancer at the age of 90, just days after celebrating his milestone birthday.

Known affectionately as many students’ favorite teacher, Larry Cervi devoted decades of his life to education and the arts, shaping young lives through theater, creativity, and encouragement. His classroom was more than a place to learn lines and stage directions — it was a space where students discovered confidence, passion, and self-expression.

In a message shared by his daughter, the family announced that on January 29, Larry passed peacefully, describing him as now being “in the living arms of his savior Jesus.” While acknowledging the deep heartbreak of the loss, the family also celebrated a life “so beautifully and fully lived,” marked by kindness, faith, wisdom, and love.

Larry’s impact reached far beyond the stage. Former students and colleagues remember him as a mentor who believed deeply in others, urging them to follow their passions and live life fully. His daughter noted that his influence will continue through every life he touched, and expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support the family received over the past year.

As tributes continue to pour in, many recall Larry’s laughter, warmth, and unmistakable artistic spirit. His family reflected that, fittingly, he would want others to keep pursuing their dreams — and imagined him now bringing his creative genius, and perhaps even a bit of choreography, to heaven itself.

Details regarding services are expected to be shared in the coming days. Larry Cervi leaves behind a legacy of inspiration, creativity, and love that will live on in classrooms, on stages, and in hearts for generations to come.
