Robert David Wolgemuth, Influential Christian Publisher and Author, Dies at 77

— The Christian publishing world is mourning the loss of Robert David Wolgemuth, a beloved leader, prolific author, and devoted man of faith, who passed away on January 10, 2026, at the age of 77 following complications from pneumonia. His death marks the close of a life deeply rooted in faith, literature, leadership, and family—one that leaves an enduring legacy felt by readers, colleagues, and loved ones around the world.

Born on February 28, 1948, Wolgemuth devoted more than four decades to Christian ministry and publishing. He served as chairman of the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association, where he played a pivotal role in shaping standards within faith-based publishing and championing voices committed to sharing the gospel through literature. His leadership earned him widespread respect across the evangelical community.

Robert was the author of more than twenty influential books, many centered on themes of faith, family, spiritual resilience, and personal growth. Among his most well-known works are She Calls Me Daddy, The Most Important Place on Earth, Gun Lap, and his devotional annotations for the Men’s Daily Bible. Collectively, his books sold millions of copies worldwide, helping readers deepen their faith and understanding of biblical truth. Five of his titles received Silver Medallion Awards from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association, a testament to the lasting impact of his writing.

Beyond his own authorship, Wolgemuth was a tireless advocate for other writers. He founded the literary agency Wolgemuth & Associates—now Wolgemuth & Wilson—which represented hundreds of authors and helped launch and shape numerous careers. Known for his mentorship, editorial insight, and generosity of spirit, he influenced an entire generation within Christian publishing.

Robert’s personal life reflected the same depth of devotion that defined his professional calling. He was first married to Barbara Jean “Bobbie” Gardner in 1970. Their marriage spanned more than four decades, during which they raised two daughters and became grandparents and great-grandparents. Bobbie’s death in 2014 after a battle with cancer was a profound loss in Robert’s life.

In 2015, he married Nancy Leigh DeMoss Wolgemuth, a respected Bible teacher and founder of the Revive Our Hearts ministry. Their marriage was described by friends as a prayer-filled partnership grounded in mutual respect and shared passion for serving Christ. Nancy was at Robert’s side during his final days, offering love and comfort as he passed.

News of his death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from across the Christian community. Many remember Robert not only for his remarkable professional achievements, but for his humility, kindness, and the way he lived out his faith with consistency and grace. He is remembered as a mentor, advocate, husband, father, and faithful servant whose influence will continue through the countless lives he touched.

As family and friends grieve, they also celebrate a life well lived—a life that consistently pointed others toward hope, truth, and the enduring love of Christ
