CHARLOTTE, NC — The Myers Park and MPTLL (Myers Park Trinity Little League) communities are reeling from heartbreak following the sudden passing of Parker South, a senior at Myers Park High School remembered for his passion, kindness, and infectious love of baseball.
Parker’s loss has sent waves of sorrow through the tight-knit Little League and school communities where he was known as a leader, teammate, and friend to many. At Myers Park Trinity, Parker played three years with the Christ Church team and contributed to several standout All-Star teams, leaving an indelible mark on the league both on and off the field.
In 2020, Parker was honored with the Billy Rice Award, one of the league’s highest recognitions, given to the player whose enthusiasm and love for the game best embody the true spirit of Little League Baseball. Those who knew him say that award could not have gone to a more deserving young man.
“The MPTLL community is devastated,” the league said in a statement. “Parker was loved by so many people, and he had a lot of love in him to give. Just a phenomenal kid. It’s heartbreaking.”
The South family has long been a pillar of the league, volunteering their time and energy to support countless players and families throughout the years. Now, that same community is rallying to support them through unimaginable grief.
Friends, teammates, and coaches describe Parker as a bright light — someone whose energy lifted others and whose love for the game inspired everyone around him. His easy smile, generosity, and team spirit left an impression that will endure far beyond the ballfield.
As tributes pour in, Myers Park High School and MPTLL are planning ways to honor Parker’s memory and celebrate the joy he brought to so many lives.
Parker South’s legacy — of sportsmanship, compassion, and love — will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. 💚⚾
