Off-Duty NYPD Officer Shoots Suspect During Alleged Robbery Attempt

SULLIVAN TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal single-vehicle crash in Ashland County on Friday evening as 55-year-old Jason L. Carter of Coolidge, Arizona.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers responded to reports of a serious crash late Friday in Sullivan Township. When emergency crews arrived, they found Carter’s vehicle heavily damaged. He was the sole occupant and, despite immediate efforts by first responders, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation. Officials have not yet determined what caused the accident and are considering whether speed, roadway conditions, or other factors played a role. Troopers noted that more details will be released as the investigation continues.
