The Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Ohio Shattered After Tragic Murder-Suicide Claims Three Lives

DAYTON, Ohio (BN24) — The Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the wider Dayton community are grieving a devastating tragedy after three U.S. Air Force members were found dead in what authorities describe as a murder-suicide spanning multiple locations early Saturday morning.
Police confirmed that Jacob Pritchard, 34, his wife Jaymee Pritchard, 33, and 1st Lt. Jaime Gustitus, 25, all connected to Wright-Patterson AFB, died in the incident. Investigators believe Jacob Pritchard killed his wife and Lt. Gustitus before taking his own life.
Authorities say the violence began shortly after 2 a.m. when a resident in Sugarcreek Township reported hearing a loud crash from a neighboring home and witnessing a man leaving the scene. The witness told police that Jacob Pritchard confronted them at gunpoint before fleeing. At that time, Lt. Gustitus had already been killed inside her apartment, according to investigators.
Hours later, Pritchard drove to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police later discovered Jaymee Pritchard’s body in the trunk of his vehicle, confirming she had been killed prior to his arrival at the base.
The couple leaves behind three young children, who officials say were not present during the attacks. They are now being cared for by family.
Lt. Gustitus, a rising officer in the 711th Human Performance Wing, was regarded as dedicated, compassionate, and deeply committed to her service. Colleagues describe her loss as “unthinkable.”
The shock of the tragedy has rippled through the Air Force community, where both Jacob and Jaymee were known and respected. In a statement, Air Force Materiel Command expressed deep sorrow, with leaders emphasizing the immeasurable loss felt across the base.
“Our hearts are shattered,” the statement read. “We extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and all those grieving these unimaginable losses.”
Counseling and grief support services have been expanded for military personnel and affected families as the investigation continues. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is leading the case, working to determine what led to the violent chain of events.
Jaymee’s family has launched a fundraiser and meal support effort for the children, urging the community to rally around them during what relatives describe as “a heartbreak beyond words.”
As the Wright-Patterson community mourns, the deaths serve as a devastating reminder of the silent emotional battles that can unfold behind closed doors — even among those who serve and protect.
