CHICAGO, IL — A West Side neighborhood is reeling in grief and disbelief following the fatal shooting of 42-year-old Kevin Watson, known to many as “Tugg,” whose life was cut short Wednesday evening in a violent encounter that unfolded in real time on social media.
On August 13, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Chicago Police officers responded to reports of gunfire at the intersection of Madison Street and LeClaire Avenue. Upon arrival, they found Kevin lying on the pavement, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Emergency responders rushed him to Mount Sinai Hospital, where doctors fought to save his life. Tragically, despite their efforts, Kevin was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
A Deadly Confrontation
According to preliminary reports from the Chicago Police Department, Kevin had been sitting in his vehicle, streaming live on Facebook, when two to three armed offenders approached him. Authorities say the suspects demanded his chain—a piece of jewelry believed to hold both monetary and personal value.
Witness accounts and police statements indicate that Kevin refused to hand it over. As he stepped out of the car, one of the assailants opened fire, striking him in the chest. The suspects then fled the scene, leaving chaos, heartbreak, and unanswered questions in their wake.
A Community Shaken
The fact that the incident was captured live online has magnified the tragedy, with many viewers reportedly witnessing the horrifying moments in real time. Loved ones say Kevin was a vibrant presence—known for his warm personality, quick smile, and enduring loyalty to friends and family.
“This was a senseless act of violence against someone who didn’t deserve it,” one relative shared. “Kevin was more than just a victim—he was a father, a friend, a brother, a man of faith. He loved his people, and now he’s gone.”
The West Side, already grappling with a longstanding struggle against gun violence, is now left to process the emotional toll of yet another life lost in its streets. Vigils are being planned to honor Kevin’s life, with candles, prayers, and flowers expected to fill the corner where he took his last breath.
Investigation Ongoing
Area Four Detectives are leading the investigation, working to identify and locate the suspects. Police are urging anyone with information—no matter how small—to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously at CPDTIP.com or by calling the Chicago Police Department’s 15th District at (312) 743-1440.
“We need the public’s help to bring justice for Kevin,” a CPD spokesperson said. “His family is grieving deeply, and they deserve answers.”
A Call for Prayer and Healing
Friends and family are asking for continued prayers as they mourn. They remember Kevin not for the violent way his life ended, but for the laughter, loyalty, and light he brought to everyone he met.
“In Jesus’ name, we’re lifting his family up,” a close friend said through tears. “We’re hurting, but we know he’s in God’s presence now. Rest easy, Tugg. Your struggle is over, and your spirit will never be forgotten.”
Kevin Watson’s death marks yet another reminder of the urgent need to address the cycle of violence claiming lives across Chicago—a cycle that has now claimed one more beloved son of the city.
