Roseville Community Mourns the Loss of Beloved Educator Katharine Elizabeth Dumas


Roseville, MN — Katharine Elizabeth Dumas, 79, of Roseville, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025. Born in West Virginia and later raised in Kansas, Kathy went on to graduate from Baker University in 1967 before moving to Minnesota to marry her husband, Richard Dumas.
Kathy devoted 40 years of her life to teaching English at the high school level, inspiring countless students along the way. She taught at Johnson High School and Washington High School in Saint Paul before spending the majority of her career at Como Park Senior High School. Beyond the classroom, she coached girls’ diving, cross country, and both girls’ and boys’ tennis, leaving an enduring mark on her students and athletes.
Generous and community-minded, Kathy contributed to the reconstruction and maintenance of eight tennis courts at Como Park High School, reflecting her lifelong dedication to education, athletics, and the people around her. Friends and family remember her for her kindness, her passion for learning, and her ability to connect deeply with others.
Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Dumas, her parents William J. Scarborough and Irene Parish Scarborough, and her brother John Scarborough. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who carry forward her legacy of love, inspiration, and community service.
A lover of reading, ancestry research, travel, the arts, and social engagement, Kathy lived a full and meaningful life. Her warmth, generosity, and dedication to those around her have left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
