Fredericton Mourns the Loss of Mark Nowlan


Fredericton, NB — The Fredericton community and fire services throughout New Brunswick are grieving the loss of Mark Nowlan, a dedicated firefighter, passionate animal advocate, and cherished friend. Mark’s passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of those who knew him and in the fire services community where he served with honor and distinction.
Mark began his career with the Fredericton Fire Department in March 1993, quickly earning respect for his expertise in fire prevention and investigation. He made history as the first firefighter in the province to work alongside an arson detection K9, Snickers, forging a groundbreaking partnership that advanced fire investigation techniques and raised the bar for safety standards across New Brunswick.
In August 2013, Mark took his commitment to public safety further by joining the Office of the Fire Marshal, where his professionalism and dedication remained unwavering. Beyond his professional achievements, Mark was known for his kindness and compassion, particularly toward animals, reflecting a heart as big as his sense of duty.
As the community mourns this tremendous loss, they also honor Mark’s legacy of service, integrity, and the lasting impact he made both on and off the fireground.
