Cyclist Killed, Two Others Critically Injured in Tragic DUI Crash on Pacific Coast Highway

DriveSan Diego, CA – Monday,A quiet Monday morning in the Lake Murray neighborhood turned to heartbreak after a car struck three children on Jackson Drive, leaving one dead and two others hospitalized, San Diego Police confirmed.
Officers responded to reports of a collision shortly after 8 a.m. near the intersection of Jackson Drive and Lake Shore Drive. According to investigators, the children—whose ages have not yet been released—were walking near the roadway when a car traveling northbound struck them under circumstances that remain under investigation.
Paramedics arrived within minutes and transported two of the children to Rady Children’s Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The third child was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. Police have not announced any arrests or citations as of Monday afternoon.
Neighbors described the area as a typically calm stretch near schools and parks, often filled with families walking to nearby playgrounds and bus stops. Many expressed shock and sorrow at the tragedy.
“This is every parent’s nightmare,” said one nearby resident, holding back tears. “We see kids walk here every day—it could have been anyone’s child.”
Traffic investigators are asking witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area between 7:45 and 8:15 a.m. to contact San Diego Police’s Traffic Division.
The names of the victims have not yet been released, pending notification of family members. Police said grief counselors will be made available at local schools affected by the incident.
