40-Year-Old Chicago Woman Fatally Shot Near Bus Exit

Chicago, IL —A tragic shooting early Saturday morning has left residents of Fuller Park shaken after a 40-year-old woman was fatally shot as she exited a private bus near the 4400 block of South Princeton Avenue.
According to Chicago police, the woman had just stepped toward the bus door around 12:40 a.m. when a gunman — believed to have been inside the vehicle — fired at point-blank range. The victim collapsed on the curb as the bus sped away into the darkness. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released, pending family notification.
Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and traffic cameras. Authorities say they are working to determine what led to the fatal encounter and whether the victim and shooter knew each other.
“This was a senseless act of violence,” said one shaken neighbor, who asked not to be named. “We just heard the shots and saw people screaming. She didn’t deserve this.”
Residents of the Fuller Park neighborhood — already burdened by rising gun violence — say the killing has left them feeling both heartbroken and fearful.
“People are just trying to get home safe,” said local community advocate Mariah Johnson. “To think something like this could happen as you step off a bus — it’s terrifying. We need more safety, more presence, and more accountability.”
No arrests have been made as of Saturday morning. Police are urging anyone with information to contact Area One detectives or submit an anonymous tip to CPD’s tip line at 833-408-0069.
The investigation remains ongoing.
