The Lily Pad community is mourning the loss of its beloved owner, Jennifer Helgen, whose passing this week has left a deep void in the hearts of staff, families, and friends alike.
Helgen, known for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering commitment to children and families, was more than the owner of Lily Pad—she was its heart and guiding light. Colleagues and parents describe her as someone who poured boundless love into every aspect of the center, ensuring that it was not only a place of learning, but also of belonging and compassion.
“Jennifer was the kind of person who gave everything she had to help others,” the Lily Pad leadership shared in a statement to families. “She loved all of her past and present staff and families fearlessly, and she will be missed so, so much by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.”
As the community begins to process this tremendous loss, Dave Helgen will assume ownership and operations of Lily Pad, with a commitment to continue Jennifer’s vision and values. “We are dedicated to preserving the warm, safe, and supportive environment she worked so hard to create,” the statement continued.
To allow staff and families to honor her memory, Lily Pad will close on Thursday, October 23, for Jennifer’s service. The center plans to reopen on Monday for families in need of care during this period.
Outpourings of love and condolences have come from across the community, reflecting the impact Jennifer had on so many lives. “Her kindness touched every family that walked through Lily Pad’s doors,” one parent shared.
As the Lily Pad community grieves, they ask for continued thoughts and prayers for Jennifer’s family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
