Framingham, MA —The Framingham community is grappling with shock and heartbreak after the death of Amy Morrell, a longtime staff member at Meadowridge Academy, who was fatally injured following an incident involving a student earlier this week.
According to authorities, the tragic event unfolded when Morrell, 41, was intervening in a behavioral situation with a 14-year-old student on campus. During the altercation, the student reportedly kicked Morrell in the chest, causing critical injuries. Despite immediate efforts by staff and emergency responders, Morrell was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
“She was one of the kindest, most patient people I’ve ever known,” said a colleague who asked not to be identified. “Amy loved those kids. She showed up every day determined to make a difference, no matter how hard the work was.”
The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office confirmed that the student has been taken into custody as the investigation continues. Officials emphasized that the case remains active and sensitive given the age of those involved.
Meadowridge Academy, a therapeutic school serving students with emotional and behavioral challenges, remained closed Thursday as grief counselors were made available for staff and students. The school issued a statement describing Morrell as “a compassionate and dedicated member of our team whose warmth and commitment to her students touched countless lives.”
Outside the school, flowers, handwritten notes, and candles have begun to accumulate — a growing memorial to a woman remembered for her unwavering care and gentle strength.
“This is an unimaginable loss,” said Framingham Mayor [Name]. “Our hearts are with Amy’s family, her colleagues, and every student whose life she touched.”
A vigil is being planned for later this week as the community comes together to remember a woman whose work was defined by compassion — and whose life ended far too soon.
