Vancouver Mourns the Loss of Salima Mawji

Vancouver, B.C. — The Vancouver community is in mourning following the passing of Salima Mawji, a deeply respected and compassionate figure whose unwavering dedication to the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation (RCHF) left an indelible mark on countless lives.
Known for her generosity, kindness, and fierce commitment to improving healthcare access, Mawji devoted much of her life to supporting the hospital’s mission and uplifting those in need. Her colleagues remember her as the heart of the foundation — someone whose warmth inspired others to give, and whose vision helped transform care for patients across the region.
“Salima had a gift for bringing people together,” said Dr. Michael Chen, a longtime physician at Royal Columbian Hospital. “She believed that every act of compassion, no matter how small, could change a life. Her impact will be felt for generations.”
Mawji’s work with the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation helped advance critical programs, medical equipment funding, and patient support initiatives. Friends say she approached every project with grace, humility, and an unshakable belief in the power of community.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Mawji was known for her deep empathy and commitment to others — often volunteering her time to local charities and community outreach efforts. Those closest to her describe a woman who gave endlessly, listened without judgment, and always sought to lift others up.
The Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation released a statement calling her passing “a profound loss to the community and to all who had the privilege of knowing her,” adding that her legacy of compassion and service will continue to inspire their work.
Salima Mawji is survived by her family, friends, and a city that feels smaller without her. Plans for a public memorial will be announced by the foundation in the coming days, as Vancouver comes together to celebrate a life dedicated to healing, kindness, and hope.
