Heartbreak in the Highlands: 71-Year-Old Hunter Killed in Tragic Incident Near Kearney, Ontario 🌲


KEARNEY, ONT. — A quiet morning in the forests near Kearney turned tragic Monday as a 71-year-old man from Greater Napanee lost his life in a devastating hunting-related incident.
Ontario Provincial Police were called to the remote area just after 9 a.m., responding to reports of a firearm incident deep in the northern bush. Parry Sound EMS and members of the Kearney Fire Department arrived quickly, but despite their efforts, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Almaguin Highlands OPP Crime Unit is leading the investigation, working closely with the OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch, the Office of the Chief Coroner, and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin.
Few details have been made public at this time, but officials confirm the death is being treated as a tragic accident.
“This is an incredibly difficult day for the community,” said a local OPP spokesperson. “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the individual involved, and with all those affected by this loss.”
