BATON ROUGE, La. — Morning commuters faced significant delays early Tuesday after a crash on I-10 Westbound near the Mississippi River Bridge blocked two right lanes, according to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD).
The crash was first reported around 6:15 a.m., causing traffic to back up past College Drive and onto the I-10/I-12 split. Emergency crews and state troopers responded quickly to the scene, working to move damaged vehicles and clear debris from the roadway.
By 6:25 a.m., DOTD confirmed the crash had been cleared, but congestion remained heavy as thousands of drivers continued their morning commute across the bridge.
Drivers are still urged to use caution and expect delays as traffic slowly returns to normal flow. Alternate routes — including US 190 and LA 1 — may provide temporary relief, but travel times remain extended throughout the capital area.
No word yet on injuries or the cause of the crash. This incident adds to a string of early-morning accidents that have complicated commutes along the I-10 corridor in recent weeks, frustrating drivers and renewing calls for infrastructure improvements in the Baton Rouge area.
Officials remind motorists to drive attentively, maintain safe following distances, and allow extra time for morning travel.
