The Calgary fitness community is heartbroken following the passing of Coach Melanie “Mel” Phan, a beloved instructor, mentor, and friend whose radiant spirit and unwavering positivity inspired everyone she met. Known affectionately as Coach Mel, she was a cornerstone of the F45 Training family, where her energy, compassion, and encouragement motivated countless members to become their best selves — both inside and outside the gym.
“Mel’s light, laughter, and strength touched every single person who walked through our doors,” said the F45 team in a heartfelt statement. “She wasn’t just a coach — she was family. Her presence filled the room, her smile lifted spirits, and her belief in others changed lives.”
Friends and colleagues describe Mel as someone whose warmth and optimism were contagious. She had a gift for making everyone feel seen, celebrated, and supported, no matter where they were in their fitness journey. Beyond her professional dedication, she was a loyal friend and a source of inspiration to all who knew her.
A Commemoration of Life will be held to honor her memory on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 6:30 a.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home & Cemetery (1605 100 St SE, Calgary, AB T1X 0L4). Members of the F45 community, family, and friends are invited to gather and celebrate the extraordinary life of a woman whose spirit continues to shine brightly in the hearts of so many.
