Moeller High Mourns the Tragic Loss of 15-Year-Old Student Dylan Straughn

CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Moeller High School community is reeling from heartbreak following the tragic death of 15-year-old Dylan Straughn, a sophomore who died after a bicycle accident early Sunday morning near Prince of Peace Church.

Authorities say the accident occurred shortly after dawn, when a passerby noticed a damaged bicycle and a lone wheel lying along the roadside. Moments later, Dylan was found unconscious by a nearby guardrail, his bike crumpled from the impact.

Off-duty firefighter Mike Robinson, who happened to be driving through the area, immediately stopped to help, performing life-saving measures until paramedics arrived. Dylan was airlifted to a local hospital, where doctors fought to save his life. Despite their tireless efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police confirmed that the driver and vehicle involved have since been located. Investigators are reviewing factors such as speed, visibility, and possible distraction or impairment. No charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The news of Dylan’s passing has sent waves of grief throughout the Moeller High School community. Friends, classmates, and teachers describe him as a kind, energetic young man whose smile could brighten any room. He was known for his adventurous spirit, his love of cycling, and his willingness to help anyone in need.

In response, the school has brought in grief counselors to support students and staff as they process the devastating loss. Vigils and memorial rides are being planned to honor Dylan’s life and passion for cycling — a reflection of how deeply he touched those around him.

“Dylan was one of those students who made you proud to teach,” said one of his teachers. “He had a warmth and curiosity that drew people in. Losing him feels unimaginable.”

As family, friends, and neighbors gather in mourning, they are united in remembering Dylan not for the tragedy that claimed him, but for the joy and light he shared so freely.
