FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ind. — A devastating two-vehicle crash on Saturday afternoon, October 4, 2025, claimed the life of a 69-year-old motorcyclist in Franklin County, leaving the community shaken.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department reported that the collision occurred at approximately 2:44 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 121 and Old U.S. Highway 52. Investigators said a 2004 Honda CRV, driven by Samantha R. Forschbach, attempted to pull onto State Road 121 from Old U.S. Highway 52, crossing directly into the path of a southbound 2008 Honda motorcycle.
The motorcycle, operated by 69-year-old Bonnie R. Lapham, collided with the driver’s side of the CRV in a violent impact. Authorities confirmed that Ms. Lapham, who was not wearing a helmet at the time, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin County Coroner’s Office. The driver of the CRV was unharmed.
Deputy Brad Lecher of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department is leading the investigation, with assistance from Letts EMS, the Laurel Fire Department, and Jolliff Towing, who provided emergency response and traffic control at the site.
This marks the 23rd fatal crash in Franklin County since January 2020, bringing the number of roadway deaths in that period to 29. Officials noted that many of these tragedies stem from preventable causes such as failure to yield, distracted driving, impairment, or unsafe speeds.
In a solemn reminder to the public, the Sheriff’s Department urged drivers and riders alike to exercise caution. “Every decision behind the wheel matters,” a spokesperson said. “We encourage everyone to have conversations with loved ones about the dangers of distracted or impaired driving. Staying alert saves lives.”
As investigators continue to review the circumstances of Saturday’s crash, Franklin County is left mourning another preventable loss, underscoring the importance of safety and vigilance on Indiana’s roads.
