Starkville, MS — A quiet Thursday morning in Starkville was shattered by tragedy after police say a man was fatally stabbed inside a Gladney Street residence. Officers with the Starkville Police Department responded to the home at approximately 12:57 a.m. on August 14, 2025, where they found 27-year-old Tykell Harvey unresponsive. Despite efforts to save him, Harvey was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say the suspect, 28-year-old Amiya Brown of Starkville, was in a dating relationship with Harvey. Following an investigation, Brown was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder. She remains in custody at the Oktibbeha County Jail as the case continues to unfold.
The fatal stabbing has shaken neighbors and the wider Starkville community, highlighting the often-hidden danger of intimate partner violence. Law enforcement officials stress that domestic violence is a serious and pervasive problem — one that leaves far too many lives cut short. According to national statistics, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men in the United States have been victims of severe physical violence by an intimate partner during their lifetime.
“This is a heartbreaking reminder that help must be sought before violence escalates,” a Starkville Police spokesperson said. “We are committed to protecting victims, holding offenders accountable, and connecting individuals to available resources.”
Authorities urge anyone facing domestic violence — or who knows someone in danger — to reach out immediately to law enforcement, local shelters, or advocacy groups. “It’s too dangerous not to,” police emphasized in their statement.
The Starkville Police Department asks anyone with information about the case or other criminal activity to call 662-323-4131, contact Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151, or submit an anonymous tip online. Crime Stoppers may offer a cash reward for information leading to an arrest.
For now, family and friends of Tykell Harvey are left grieving the sudden and violent loss of a young life, as the community grapples with both sorrow and a renewed urgency to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
