CANOË, KY — The tight-knit community of Canoe, Kentucky, is reeling from the heartbreaking loss of 10-year-old Jayden Spicer, who passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. Born October 4, 2014, at Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital, Jayden was a bright, energetic boy whose radiant smile and boundless enthusiasm left an enduring mark on everyone who knew him.
A student at Highland Turner Elementary School in Breathitt County, Jayden was preparing to enter the fourth grade. Teachers and classmates alike recall his curiosity, kindness, and eagerness to learn — qualities that made him a beloved presence in the classroom. Beyond academics, Jayden’s days were filled with the pure joys of childhood. He loved playing Fortnite and Roblox, idolized Spider-Man, and could often be found outside — throwing rocks, riding his four-wheeler, bouncing on the trampoline, or kicking a ball across the yard. Soccer, basketball, baseball — whatever the game, Jayden played with an infectious excitement that drew others in.
Jayden’s passing comes just three months after the loss of his grandmother, Shirley Faye Johnson, who lovingly raised him and was his greatest source of comfort. Family members say they take solace in knowing the two are now reunited.
He is survived by his aunts, Samantha Brunty and Chy Salyers; his uncle, Michael Hays; his sisters, Mia and Aliyha Spicer; his brothers, Hunter, River, and Fisher Gross; and his “like-a-grandmother,” Linda Salyers. He also leaves behind a large circle of cousins, friends, and neighbors who will remember him for his kindness, laughter, and adventurous heart.
“Jayden had this way of making any day brighter,” one family friend shared. “He was fearless, funny, and full of love. It’s impossible to imagine life without him.”
Funeral arrangements will be announced once finalized. As the community gathers to mourn, they will also celebrate the precious life of a little boy whose joy and spirit will never be forgotten.
Though his time was tragically short, Jayden’s memory will live on — in the stories told, the games played, and the love he left behind.
